A photo of my grandfather Joseph Courcy at the age of 7 with Mr. Octave Bouillon and his wife of St-Damase. My grandfather had lost his mother, my Great Grandmother Olympe dit Lacroix who died of dementia at the young age of 25. Greatly affected by the loss of his wife, my Great Grandfather Théophile Courcy had difficulties taking care of his family. So he decided to go to the United States and to look for work. But first he placed his 4 children into foster families. My Grandfather Joseph Courcy spent the rest of his childhood with the Octave Bouillon family in St-Damase. His oldest sister Justine Courcy was adopted by the Guy family at Baie des Sables and eventually married Joseph Otis. His other sister Olympe Courcy was raised by the Vaillancourt family in Fall River, Massachusetts and eventually married Napoléon Carignan. Finally, my Grandfather's brother Louis Courcy was raised by his Grandfather Jean-Baptiste Courcy (my Great Great Grandfather) in St-Damase.
